In a proactive move to safeguard students and educational institutions, the Delta State Police Command has intensified efforts under its School Protection Security framework by engaging heads of public and private schools across the state on enhanced safety measures.

The strategic security meeting, held on December 17, 2025, was convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda. The engagement was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and coordinated by the State Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative, ACP George Efeizomor. Education stakeholders and school administrators from across the state were also in attendance.

A total of 62 school heads and teachers participated in the meeting, which focused on strengthening school safety in light of recent reports of student abductions in parts of the country. Discussions centered on critical preventive measures, including proper fencing of school premises, installation of surveillance cameras, engagement of local vigilantes, and improved collaboration between school authorities and security agencies. Emerging concerns such as parental interference in school security policies and the misuse of mobile phones by students during school hours were also addressed.

Speaking at the meeting, ACP George Efeizomor assured participants of sustained police support and emphasized the importance of constant communication between school administrators and their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders. He encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious activities and shared emergency control room numbers to facilitate rapid police response when needed.

Reassuring stakeholders of the Command’s readiness, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, through his representative DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reaffirmed the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property. He disclosed that adequate security deployments, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response mechanisms have been activated across the state, particularly around school environments, throughout the Ember Months.

The Delta State Police Command noted that the state remains relatively peaceful and urged school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to continue partnering with the Police to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school facilities. The Command stressed that collective vigilance and cooperation remain key to sustaining a secure learning environment across Delta State.
