Delta Police to Begin Full Enforcement of Tinted Glass Regulations October 2 — CP Abaniwonda Warns Against Illegal Sirens, Covered Number Plates

By Diafa Doubra,
The Delta State Police Command has announced that it will begin full enforcement of the federal regulations on tinted vehicle glass across the state from Thursday, October 2, 2025. The Command emphasized that the exercise would be carried out professionally, with utmost respect for citizens’ rights and zero tolerance for misconduct by officers.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command also reiterated the existing ban on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving or strobe lights, as well as the covering, defacing, or obstruction of vehicle number plates.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to strictly monitor field operations to ensure compliance and civility during enforcement. He stressed that the move is aimed at curbing lawlessness, road intimidation, and enhancing public safety across Delta State.
“Motorists are advised to ensure that their vehicle glass meets legal transparency standards and to carry all essential documents, including driver’s licence, proof of ownership, and valid insurance papers,” the statement read. “Unauthorized sirens and flashing lights must be removed immediately, while number plates must remain clear, legible, and properly affixed at all times.”
The police warned that vehicles with covered, bent, or sticker-obstructed number plates will be impounded, and offenders will face the full wrath of the law.
CP Abaniwonda assured residents that the operation is not targeted at any group but is part of ongoing efforts to promote sanity and order on Delta roads. He further urged members of the public to cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search procedures and to promptly report any cases of police misconduct through the Complaint Response Unit via the following numbers: 09155570008, 09011112311, 09064308018, or 09066575187.
The Delta Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights as it intensifies efforts to ensure safety and compliance on the state’s roads.
