By Micheal Chukwuebuka
A quiet neighbourhood in Dorayi Charanchi, Kano State, has been plunged into mourning following the killing of a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children after unknown assailants reportedly broke into their residence.
Residents said the victims were discovered with fatal injuries after intruders gained access to the home using weapons. The exact circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and authorities have not released further operational details as investigations continue.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that a full-scale investigation has been launched. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, assured residents that all necessary resources have been deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Reacting to the development, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf condemned the killings, describing them as “barbaric and senseless.” He directed security agencies to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and enhance community surveillance across the state to prevent similar incidents.
The tragedy has reignited concerns over safety and security among residents, with community members calling for stronger protective measures and quicker response mechanisms. Religious leaders and neighbours have continued to offer prayers and support to the affected family, as condolences pour in from across the state.
Fatima Abubakar and her children have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, as the Dorayi community struggles to come to terms with the loss.
