Dispatch Rider Crushed to Death by Train in Lagos

A tragic accident occurred in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Friday when a train ran over a dispatch rider, killing him instantly.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened at the railway crossing near the Ikeja Along area. The dispatch rider, who was reportedly in a hurry to make a delivery, attempted to cross the rail tracks despite the warning signals that a train was approaching. Unfortunately, he miscalculated the timing and was struck by the speeding locomotive.

The impact of the collision left the victim’s motorcycle mangled beyond recognition, while his body was dragged several meters before the train came to a halt.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), rushed to the scene to manage the situation and remove the remains of the victim.

The tragic event caused panic and traffic gridlock in the busy Ikeja axis, as onlookers gathered in shock. Authorities have since urged motorists and pedestrians to always adhere to safety warnings around rail crossings to prevent future tragedies.
