The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert warning of an imminent terrorist attack planned by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in parts of Ondo and Kogi States.

According to a confidential memo dated October 20, 2025, the DSS uncovered surveillance activities by suspected ISWAP operatives in several areas, including Eriti Akoko, Oyin Akoko, and Owo in Ondo State, as well as parts of Kogi State. The document, shared with military and security agencies, urged immediate tightening of security across the affected regions.

The secret police revealed that intelligence reports indicated the terrorists were planning coordinated attacks on public places, including markets and worship centres. Security operatives were therefore advised to increase patrols, conduct stop-and-search operations, and enhance community vigilance.

The alert comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent insecurity across several regions. The DSS reiterated its commitment to preventing any breach of peace, urging residents to report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
