By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, on Friday embarked on a statewide Easter visibility patrol across major highways, reinforcing security presence and assessing operational readiness of officers on duty.
The patrol, which covered key towns including Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, Ozoro, Oleh, Ughelli, Warri, and Effurun, forms part of the Command’s efforts to ensure adequate deployment of personnel and maintain public safety during the Easter celebrations.
During the exercise, the Police Commissioner made several stops at checkpoints along the highways, where he interacted directly with officers and evaluated their alertness and preparedness to respond to security challenges.
Addressing personnel, CP Oyeniyi emphasized the importance of proactive and intelligence-driven policing, urging officers to remain vigilant at all times. He noted that early detection of threats and prompt response are crucial to effective crime prevention.
The Commissioner further stressed the need for professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of duties. He cautioned officers to be courteous in their interactions with members of the public, highlighting that discipline, respect, and integrity remain the cornerstone of effective policing.
He also issued a stern warning against extortion and other forms of misconduct, making it clear that unprofessional behaviour will not be tolerated under his leadership.
Reaffirming his commitment to a people-oriented policing approach, CP Oyeniyi urged officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force while carrying out their lawful responsibilities.
The visibility patrol is part of broader measures by the Delta State Police Command aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure Easter celebration across the state.
