EFCC Arraigns Two UBA Staff For Stealing Customer’s N20m

By Sola Omoniyi, Lagos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two United Bank of Africa, UBA workers, simply identified as Freeman Austin and Umar Abdullahi for stealing a whopping sum of N20 million belonging to a customer.
The anti-graft agency arraigned the duo and two others, Ahmed Baahir and Abdulhakim Musa, before the Federal High Court, Kano, on a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The bank workers allegedly produced an ATM card in the name of Sani Muntari and used it to steal N20 million from his bank account.
However, the four defendants pleaded not guilty after listening to the charges.
The counsel for the prosecution, Aisha Tahar, pleaded to the court to remand the defendants and fix a date for the commencement of trial.
Justice Simon Akpah, however, remanded the defendant and adjourned the trial till June 26, 2023.
