The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has ordered the immediate arrest of its officers captured in a viral video assaulting a female hotel staff member, following widespread public outrage.

The disturbing video, which surfaced online over the weekend, shows several EFCC operatives storming a hotel allegedly without a warrant and physically assaulting a female receptionist while conducting a midnight raid. The incident reportedly occurred in Akure, Ondo State.

In a swift response, the EFCC in a statement condemned the behavior, calling it “unprofessional, unethical, and completely unacceptable.” The Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that all operatives involved have been identified and are currently being detained pending the outcome of an internal disciplinary process.

“The EFCC does not condone any form of abuse or misconduct. These officers will be held accountable,” Oyewale said.

The agency emphasized that while it remains committed to its mandate of fighting financial crimes, it would not tolerate any violation of human rights in the process.

Human rights groups and civil society organizations have praised the Commission’s quick action but are demanding full transparency in the investigation and justice for the victim. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has also called for prosecution if criminal conduct is established.

The female victim, who sustained minor injuries, is said to be receiving medical attention and legal support.

This incident comes at a time when several government agencies are under scrutiny for abuse of power, further fueling calls for police and security reform in Nigeria.
