The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has secured over 13,000 convictions since its establishment, underscoring its role as Nigeria’s foremost anti-corruption agency.

The commission revealed this during a briefing in Abuja, noting that the convictions cover a wide range of offences, including internet fraud, money laundering, financial misappropriation, and public sector corruption.

EFCC officials explained that the milestone reflects years of painstaking investigations and prosecutions, even in the face of stiff resistance from powerful individuals and networks entrenched in the system. They stressed that the fight against corruption remains central to Nigeria’s economic recovery and institutional integrity.

While acknowledging the progress, the agency admitted that corruption is still a major obstacle to national development. It called for stronger collaboration with the judiciary, civil society, and the public to sustain the momentum.

Observers say the announcement is a signal of the EFCC’s determination to strengthen accountability, particularly as the government continues to push reforms in the petroleum sector, tax administration, and public service management.
