Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed speculations linking him to a possible presidential bid in 2027, declaring that he has no interest in contesting for any political office.

El-Rufai made the clarification while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday. According to him, Nigeria’s leadership challenges will not be solved by individuals recycling themselves in power but by raising a new generation of competent and credible leaders.

“I am not running for any office in 2027. My focus now is on mentoring young Nigerians who have the character, competence, and capacity to lead this country into the future,” he said.

The former governor stressed that he has served in various capacities, both as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and as a two-term governor, and feels fulfilled in public service. His priority, he explained, is to contribute to nation-building by supporting visionary young leaders who can drive reforms and strengthen democratic institutions.

El-Rufai’s statement comes amid growing speculation about potential contenders for the 2027 presidential election. Some political observers had listed him among likely aspirants, citing his strong political network and influence in northern Nigeria.

However, his remarks appear to settle the matter, at least for now, as he positions himself more as a kingmaker and mentor than a direct participant in the next political contest.
