The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that their decision to sideline him from key party deliberations could ultimately lead to the party’s downfall.

Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja, Wike, who has been at odds with some PDP governors, expressed displeasure over what he described as deliberate exclusion from major consultations despite his significant contributions and long-standing influence within the party.

“Have I not said it before that the booby trap you are setting will consume you? The way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor questioned the rationale behind his exclusion, asking whether his appointment as a minister diminished his relevance within the party.

“I am the FCT Minister. Are you telling me that because I am not a governor, you will hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me, and then expect the party to survive?” he queried.

Wike dismissed suggestions that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the PDP’s internal woes, insisting that the party’s problems were self-inflicted.

“All these talks about APC are rubbish. Is it APC that makes you take wrong decisions? You mean two or three people, because they are governors and receive large allocations, will go and decide, and you tell me to follow? Follow who?” he said.

Commenting on the party’s forthcoming national convention, Wike accused the PDP leadership of failing to complete critical preparatory processes.

“If they do the right thing, will anybody stall the convention? They have not done the congresses and other things that should be in place,” he stated.

His remarks come as the PDP prepares for its national convention scheduled for 15 and 16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
