Family Writes Delta Police Commissioner, AC Warri, Demands Justice Over Police Role In Death of MR EFE OGEDEGBE

The family of late Mr. Efe Linus Ogedegbe who was a victim of a ghastly motor accident allegedly orchestrated by suspected police officers of Enerhen Police Division, Delta State has written to the State Commissioner of police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda and the Assistant Commissioner of police in Warri Area command for thorough investigation of what led to the death of their brother.

In letter written to police authority by the family through their lawyer, Omes Ogedegbe Esq which a copy was sent to Congress Newspaper alleged that the police officers chased the victim to his untimely death.

The family argued that the facts presented by the police on the dead of the victim was different from the reality as upon their visit to the scene and later to the Enerhen police station.

While demanding for justice, the family narrated that during their visit to the accident scene they saw the car involved in the accident and it showed the person that died in the accident was on the passenger’s seat which was terribly soaked with blood whereas the police claimed only the driver was in the car and he died in the accident.

The letter reads in part, “Our attention was drawn to the controversies surrounding the death of Mr. Efe Linus ogedegbe who was a victim of a ghastly motor allegedly orchestrated by police officers of police divisional officers, Enerhen, Delta state.
It is our findings as revealed by one Ese Akpoigho and a host of others who stormed the scene of a supposed ghastly vehicle accident that occurred on the 2nd of March, 2025 to the effect thus:

” That on the 4th of March, 2025 the said Ese Akpoigho where at the popular Igbudu market Warri Delta State when she got a phone call demanding her urgent attention at the Warri central hospital ,Warri Delta State.

“That upon her arrival at the Warri central hospital, she met the brother by name Igho Okpokpo who informed her that he got a call that one Efe Ogedebge had died from a ghastly motor accident.

“That the mortician at the central hospital referred them to the Warri area command where they met with the officers in charge and were requested to make statement which they did before they were taken to the mortuary to identify the corpse.

“That upon their return to the office of the Area Commander, Warri they met with the family of the persons whom the police claimed drove the car that killed the said Efe Ogedegbe.

“That the facts presented by the police is different from the reality as upon their visit to the scene and later to the Enerhen police station they saw the car involved in the accident and it shows the person that died in the accident was on the passenger seat which was terribly soaked with blood whereas the police claimed only the driver was in the car and he died in the accident.

“That the facts revealed further are;
(a) That the boys were been chased by police officers on the said Sunday 2nd March, 2025 at about 8pm when they lost control resulting in the said accident.

“(b) That the police pretended to have acted as rescuers but till these day the police that reported the matter at the Enerhen police station are yet to be revealed.

“(c) That three phones were recovered by the police belonging to the possible occupants of the car with no investigation further.

“(d) That the claim that the owner of the car died in the accident is not tunable as the car particulars shows the owner of the car was one Chike Nmerenwanne while the alleged late driver is one Othoke with the police even concealing the information.

“(e) That a visit to the scene of the accident by the Effurun/Sapele Road shows the fence of the Globus bank was also affected.

“(f) That the witnesses publicly acclaimed one of the occupants was handcuffed and taken away by the police officers.

The family however, demanded for a discrete investigation by an independent panel even as the current section handling the matter has displayed non-interest arising from possible incompetence.
