Fans React as Tim Godfrey Features Oxlade on New Single ‘Infinity’

By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Nigerian gospel singer Tim Godfrey has sparked heated debate within the Christian and entertainment communities following the release of his new single, “Infinity”, featuring Afrobeats star Oxlade.
The collaboration, which blends gospel themes with Afrobeats rhythm, merges Godfrey’s signature spiritual energy with Oxlade’s smooth vocal delivery. Announcing the release on Instagram, Godfrey wrote:
“With God, nothing is impossible. My God is capable. Call am, He’s reachable… INFINITY X @oxladeofficial OUT NOW! RUN IT UP!”
The song’s music video, directed by Ella Raaye, was previewed alongside the announcement.
However, the feature has divided fans. While some applaud the fusion of gospel and mainstream Afrobeats as a bold and innovative step, others have criticised Godfrey for collaborating with an artist previously linked to controversy — referencing Oxlade’s involvement in a 2022 s3x tape scandal.
One critic, Calebtheplugg, argued that the choice of Oxlade undermines the spiritual integrity of gospel music. He wrote:
“There’s nothing Oxlade did here that Moses Bliss or others wouldn’t execute even better! Don’t tell me it’s about audience reach — Moses Bliss has as much. This is just unnecessary controversy to push your career.”
He further stated that gospel music “should be inspired by God,” insisting that “ministrations from God cannot come through a vessel not grounded in Christ.”
Another Instagram user, _brownsteph, accused Godfrey of masking personal ambition with spirituality, writing:
“Y’all still see this one as a gospel minister? Person wey dey disguise under gospel dey run him business. You want to tell me you were led by the Holy Spirit on this one too? Lmao.”
In contrast, others have urged caution and restraint in judging the collaboration. Commenter thegospelmentality noted:
“Let us not judge cases like this because you weren’t there when God told him to do this collabo. If God approved it, who are you to say no?”
Despite the backlash, “Infinity” continues to generate significant buzz online, with fans and critics alike dissecting its message, production, and musical direction.
For Tim Godfrey, whose past hits such as “Nara” and “Toya” have established him as a household name in gospel music, the move appears to signal a willingness to challenge boundaries and explore new creative frontiers.
