Fears over plan to abandon Renovation work at Warri Stadium

Concerned Athletes and Footballers in Delta State are beginning to entertain fears that the ongoing renovation work at the Warri City Stadium may be abandoned before the expiration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa tenure come May 29,2023.

It was gathered that when newsmen visited the Warri City Stadium recently, the Contracting Firm was not on Site as the main bowl of the Stadium was completely empty.

Meanwhile, a yet to be verified report has it that the Contracting Firm, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited that handled the renovation work at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, is the same Contracting Firm that is handling the renovation work at the Warri City Stadium.

Speaking to our correspondent, a Sports Enthusiast who pleaded for anyormity said, the way things are going, there are no sign that the Warri City Stadium renovation work would be completed before the expiration of Governor Okowa tenure.

He emphasized that the Contractor in the first place should not have embarked on the renovation work at the Stadium to compound the worsening situation at the Stadium if the Firm was not sure of completing it, noting that right now, most Athletes and Footballers within and outside Warri are stranded as they no longer train because of the bad State of the Stadium.

He, however, appealed to Governor Okowa to prevail on the Contracting Firm to return to Site fully so that the project would be completed before he leaves office.

It would be recalled that the Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa gave the Contracting Firm three months ultimatum to complete the renovation work at the Warri City Stadium, and during that period the President of Nigeria Athletics Federation, Chief Tonobok who doubled as the Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission promised that they are installing the best tartan track and pitch of International standard similar to the one at Oregon University, United States of America and Birmingham in United Kingdom.
