Federal Government Launches New E-Visa Platform

By Diafa Doubra,
The Federal Government has unveiled a new electronic visa (e-visa) application system aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s immigration process and combating identity fraud. The platform, launched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), allows applicants to complete visa requests entirely online eliminating the need for physical paperwork and reducing reliance on third-party agents. Officials say the system is designed to enhance transparency, shorten processing times, and provide real time updates to applicants.
According to the NIS, the e-visa platform will also feature improved security protocols, including biometric verification and encrypted data storage, to protect applicants personal information. The government hopes the move will boost tourism, attract foreign investment, and position Nigeria as a more accessible destination for business and leisure travelers. Immigration experts have welcomed the innovation but stress the need for strong technical support and public awareness campaigns to ensure the system is accessible to both tech savvy users and those in regions with limited internet access.
