Federal Government Seeks $150 Billion to Boost Vaccine Supply and Health Infrastructure
By Diafa Doubra,
The Nigerian government has announced that it requires approximately $150 billion to adequately fund vaccine procurement and distribution for the years 2025 and 2026.
The disclosure was made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, during the 2025 Joint Annual Health Sector Review held in Abuja. Edun explained that the funds would ensure sustained vaccine availability, improved immunization coverage, and better healthcare access across the country.
According to the minister, the Tinubu administration has significantly increased health sector funding, with the 2025 allocation rising by nearly 60 percent compared to the previous year.
He further noted that the Basic Health Care Provision Fund has more than doubled, signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening the nation’s public health system. The government, he added, is working closely with international partners to close funding gaps and ensure that every Nigerian especially children and vulnerable groups has access to life-saving vaccines.
