FG Begins Screening of 170 Foreigners Who Applied for Nigerian Citizenship
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The Federal Government is reviewing 170 applications from foreign nationals seeking Nigerian citizenship, insisting that only persons of proven character and integrity will be approved.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed this in Abuja after a meeting of the Citizenship Advisory Committee, which vets applications before forwarding them to President Bola Tinubu for consideration.
He said the screening process would be rigorous, involving officials from the Department of State Services, Immigration Service, and the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs. According to him, Nigerian citizenship must reflect honesty, discipline, and national values.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting a respected and trusted nation at home and abroad.
