FG Pledges Steady Fuel Supply, Resolves Dangote Refinery Dispute

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians of uninterrupted availability of refined petroleum products across the country, reaffirming its commitment to energy stability and market confidence. This follows a meeting of the Steering Committee on the Domestic Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Local Currency Initiative, convened to address recent concerns in the downstream oil sector.

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, reviewed developments including the temporary suspension of the Naira-for-crude oil arrangement with Dangote Refinery, which has now been amicably resolved.

The committee also deliberated on issues raised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) regarding the refinery.

Among those in attendance were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr Zacch Adedeji, who also chairs the Technical Committee; as well as representatives from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Afreximbank, and Dangote Refinery.

The committee assured Nigerians that there would be no disruption in the supply and distribution of petroleum products nationwide.

The Federal Government further affirmed that the Naira-for-crude initiative remains in place and will continue as planned. It also pledged to address any outstanding disagreements—particularly those involving PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery—through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Reaffirming its commitment to energy security, consumer protection, and market stability, the government emphasised that it will continue to implement policies aimed at ensuring reliable access to petroleum products across the country.
