FG Set to Roll Out New National Railway Master Plan to Link All States
By Diafa Doubra,
The Federal Government is finalizing a comprehensive National Railway Development Roadmap aimed at extending rail connectivity across all 36 states of the federation, according to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
The new plan, expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, will prioritize both modernisation of existing lines and construction of new routes to boost economic integration, trade, and mobility across Nigeria.
An NRC official disclosed that the roadmap will align with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s infrastructure renewal agenda, focusing on public-private partnerships and foreign investment to fund large-scale railway projects.
The plan will also address security and maintenance challenges, ensuring safer and more efficient transport of goods and passengers. It aims to link major industrial cities and agricultural zones to ports and export corridors, positioning the railway system as a key driver of national development.
When completed, the project is expected to reduce road congestion, create thousands of jobs, and significantly cut transport costs for Nigerians.
