FG Using Facade of Justice to Persecute Nnamdi Kanu — Human Rights Lawyer

By Diafa Doubra,
A human rights lawyer, Barrister Ejike Orji, has accused the Federal Government of using what he described as a “facade of justice” to continue the persecution of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Orji alleged that the government’s handling of Kanu’s case reflects a deliberate attempt to suppress dissenting voices rather than uphold the rule of law. He stated that despite multiple court rulings ordering Kanu’s release, the government has failed to comply, thereby undermining Nigeria’s judicial integrity.
The lawyer argued that the continued detention of the IPOB leader contradicts both local and international human rights standards. He called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to demonstrate genuine respect for court orders, emphasizing that selective justice weakens public trust in the nation’s democracy.
Meanwhile, supporters of Nnamdi Kanu have renewed their demand for his unconditional release, warning that the government’s perceived bias could further heighten tensions across the South-East region. The Federal Government, however, insists that Kanu must face due legal processes for alleged offenses against the state.
