Finance Minister Wale Edun Returns to Nigeria, Quells Health Rumours with Public Appearance

By Diafa Doubra,
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to the country and attended an official engagement, putting to rest speculations about his health.
Edun, who had reportedly been away for a few days, made a public appearance at a government function in Abuja on Monday, where he looked healthy and interacted warmly with colleagues and officials. His presence comes after widespread online rumours suggesting that he had taken ill while on an official trip abroad.
Sources close to the ministry described the minister’s outing as a deliberate move to assure Nigerians and the international community that he remains fully active in his role. “He is fine, focused, and back to work,” one senior aide said.
Edun, a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s economic team, has been instrumental in implementing the administration’s fiscal and monetary reforms. His return is expected to reinforce ongoing economic policy coordination efforts amid Nigeria’s current inflation and currency challenges.
The Federal Ministry of Finance is yet to issue an official statement, but Monday’s event has largely dispelled doubts about the minister’s wellbeing.
