FIRS, EFCC Renew Alliance to Tackle Tax Evasion

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have strengthened their partnership to boost tax compliance and crack down on evasion.

After a joint meeting in Abuja, FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji said the collaboration will ensure that tax evaders are prosecuted while compliant taxpayers enjoy more transparent processes. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede added that the Commission will use its investigative tools to track illicit financial flows and prosecute offenders.

The renewed alliance will focus on joint operations, data sharing, and public sensitisation campaigns. Analysts say the move could help Nigeria recover billions lost annually to tax evasion and strengthen government revenue for infrastructure and development.
