Former Delta Commissioner Dies

Professor Bello Bibobra Orubebe, a renowned law professor, barrister, and environmental activist, passed away on September 28, 2025.

It was learnt that he was a leading figure in the Niger Delta emancipation struggle, championing justice, environmental rights, and self-determination. Prof. Orubebe served as Delta State’s Commissioner for Environment and Secretary-General of the Ijaw National Congress, leaving a legacy of courage and intellect in environmental justice and regional development.

Congress gathered that Prof. Orubebe dedicated his life to protecting the Niger Delta environment and promoting the rights of its people.

He served with distinction as Commissioner for Environment in Delta State and Secretary-General of the Ijaw National Congress.
His unwavering commitment to justice and environmental rights inspired hope and resilience in his community.

According to a report, Prof. Orubebe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider Niger Delta community. His vision for a just and sustainable environment will continue to inspire future generations.
