Freedom of Press: Lawan Celebrates Nigerian Journalists

In honour of World Press Freedom Day, the president of Nigeria’s Senate, Ahmad Lawan has applauded, honoured and congratulated all Nigerian Journalists.
Lawan stated that Nigeria’s sociopolitical and economic progress has benefited greatly from the work of journalists.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser for Media, Ola Awoniyi, he said that Nigerian journalists deserve appreciation for their contributions to democracy.
The President of the Senate stated,
“Nigerian journalists deserve our appreciation for their contributions to democracy and governance in Nigeria as the fourth estate of the realm,” he stated.
“In addition to defending the rights of a significant portion of society, protecting press freedom also advances the human right to freedom of expression and opinion.
“Because of this, the ninth National Assembly has worked to ensure that no legislation falling under its authority interferes with fundamental rights over the last four years.” He added
On World Press Freedom Day, the Senate President wished all journalists a good holiday.
