Gani Adams Warns Nigeria Approaching ‘Critical Security Breaking Point’ Amid Growing Terror Threats
By Diafa Doubra, Warri
Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has sounded a fresh alarm over what he describes as an escalating wave of terrorist activities across several parts of Nigeria. Speaking on Wednesday, Adams criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to rein in the rising insecurity, stating that armed groups now operate boldly around strategic regions of the country. According to him, intelligence gathered by his network suggests that these terror groups are “surrounding communities” and may be waiting for “an external signal” before launching coordinated attacks.
Adams backed recent indications that the United States military may intervene to assist Nigeria in tackling terrorism, noting that the situation has moved beyond what local security agencies can manage alone. He expressed concern that the federal government appears overwhelmed, warning that without decisive action, Nigeria could slip into a deeper crisis. He emphasised that insecurity has become a daily reality for citizens, with attacks and abductions spreading from the North-West to other regions.
He called on the Tinubu government to urgently review its security strategy, strengthen intelligence-sharing, and collaborate with both local and international partners to stop the momentum of violent groups. Adams added that communities living in high-risk areas are losing hope as terrorists continue to exploit Nigeria’s porous borders and weak enforcement systems. He stressed that only rapid, coordinated action can prevent the situation from spiralling into what he described as a “national catastrophe.”
