In a rare public acknowledgment of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to ramp up American food aid to the region, admitting that real starvation is taking place.
Speaking at a press briefing in Washington on Tuesday, Trump said the U.S. will collaborate with allies to set up food distribution hubs within Gaza, calling the crisis unacceptable in the modern world. The move follows mounting international pressure for stronger intervention, as aid groups continue to report children dying from hunger and widespread malnutrition amid ongoing Israeli bombardments and blockades.
This announcement comes as the United Nations warns that famine is imminent, with over 500,000 people already facing catastrophic food insecurity.
The Biden administration had been heavily criticized for not doing enough, but Trump’s administration appears to be taking a more proactive role in addressing the crisis.
Humanitarian corridors remain a major challenge, with limited access still hindering the delivery of life-saving aid. Despite the U.S. promise, experts warn that without a ceasefire, food efforts may remain symbolic
