Gov Diri appeals to Federal govt to create more LGs in Bayelsa

By Stephen Asaba-ase
Following his Appeal Court victory, Governor Diri called for the creation of more local government areas in Bayelsa State, citing unfair treatment with only 8 LGAs compared to other states with 44 and 40.
He advocated for states to have control over creating and funding LGAs, ensuring resources are not diverted from one state to another.
Governor Diri emphasised Bayelsa’s commitment to local government autonomy, highlighting the state’s support for LGAs, enabling them to execute capital projects, save funds, and manage their affairs independently.
He stressed the importance of addressing these injustices to prevent future conflicts. The governor’s push for LG autonomy and additional LGAs aimed to promote grassroots development and good governance in Bayelsa State.
