Nigerian citizens are now wondering why elected government officials can’t abstained from embezzling and misappropriating public funds as Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuayi allegedly connived with Access bank to divert a whopping sum of N5.1 billion in the state.

According to report, Ifeanyi directed council chairmen to divert the sum of N5.1 billion, a special grant recently meant for 17 Local Government areas in Enugu, which is part of N8.075 billion shared among local government in Nigeria by the Federal government.

The governor on Wednesday May 18, 2023, ordered former Chief of staff, Dr. Festus Uzoh to coordinate the movement of the fund, according to investigation.

It was reported that Ifeanyi directed the councils to make a payment of N170 million, and as at time of this report, only two local governments had complied, Udenu and Ezeagu Local Governments.

It was gathered that the funds from the local governments chairmen would be paid to a newly established state University of Medical and Applied Science, Igbo Ano, Enugu state and Access bank, with account number 1662014848.

The report alleged that the executive governor hurriedly inaugurated the institution to Syphon the state treasury in the last minutes.

Further information revealed that when the fund is fully deposited into this bank account, it would be diverted into nominated private accounts of Governor Ifeanyi and the Governor elect, Peter Mbah.

The state governor had been accused of constantly tampering with state’s local government funds. It could be recalled that last December, Governor Ifeanyi ordered the council chairmen to donate the sum of N500,000 each as Christmas gift for him.

It was also reported that Governor Ifeanyi diverted another whopping sum of N200 million from federal government from each of 17 local government which was made into Pat and Emma Enterprise with account number 1718420227, also with Access bank playing a huge role in the diversion of the monies meant for state and local governments.
