The governor of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has ordered the commencement of the Ijaw Communities Awori Market project in mile 3 following the visit by the chairman of Ovia South-West local government Council, Engr. Edosa Enowoghomwenma in the penultimate week.

The governor had ordered the chairman, Ovia South-West local government Council area, Engr. Edosa Enowoghomwenma to supervise the process and ensure that the market project is completed within a short time.

The delegation of the governor and the LGA chairman were led by Hon. Desmond Owen, Special Adviser to the Local government Chairman, and Mr Justice, H.O.D for Revenue Management, mandated by the Council Chairman to inspect the first laudable registered market in Edo riverine communities to begin construction.

Edosa who was represented by Desmond said, “first of all, I appreciate Comrade God’stime Ogidigba, Senior special assistant to the governor and Comrade Daniel Ezekiel spokesman of the riverine communities coalition for their resilient efforts in making this market a limelight and every other person who had contributed immensely, the Chairman on behalf of the governor extend his profound gratitude to you all”.

He stressed that, the Council Chairman had made it mandatory to take up the project and complete it within a short time, promising that both the LGA and the state governments will not in any way neglect the riverine Ijaw communities in the state.

Desmond said, “from what we have seen, nothing will stop the governor and the LGA chairman from not making this market a standard market in the constituency being the only registered and approved market in the whole of the riverine communities in the state”.

Desmond also noted that, the market project will in turn provide jobs for the Ijaw communities during construction and after completion, urging Awori and its environs to make good use of the opportunity.

“The Governor is actually behind this project and more is yet to be done for the riverine communities, the security architecture will also be consolidated, the road will be properly put into shape to strengthen the viability of the economic activities in the riverine area.

“The Chairman had affirmed before that, there will be adequate maintenance of the road every year to endure the foundation that the governor had already laid, there are so many development plans that are yet to be done in riverine communities as a result of this road.

“We need to encourage ourselves, do well to utilize opportunities and all hands should be on deck to consolidate what the government has done and about to do because, the government alone cannot perfect its plans and policies without the Peoples cooperation”, he added.
