Governor Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC, Cites Need to Align Enugu with Central Government
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Mbah announced his decision during a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, explaining that it followed deep reflection and a desire to connect Enugu more closely with the central government.
“Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah declared.
The governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him with a platform that brought him to office but said the move was necessary to advance the interests of the people of Enugu and align with the APC’s broader vision for national development.
“To the Peoples Democratic Party, which supported us through a demanding campaign and celebrated our victory, I express my heartfelt gratitude,” he said. “Leadership often requires taking tough, even painful decisions in pursuit of greater goals. This is one of those moments.”
Mbah commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as “massive support” for Enugu State since the start of his administration and expressed optimism that the new political alignment would enhance collaboration and unlock fresh opportunities for growth and development.
The governor confirmed that members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees had joined him in defecting to the APC.
Mbah’s exit from the PDP is said to precede the anticipated defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, whose move to the APC has reportedly been finalised. Earlier this year, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, also crossed over to the ruling party along with their cabinets and aides.
