Gov’ship poll: APC announces closure of campaign in Delta

Ahead of the Saturday’s governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, the All Progressives Congress, APC Delta state has announced a closure of all campaigns in the state at Thursday midnight.

This was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Tonye Timi, Deputy Director,
Media & Publicity Committee,
Delta State APC Campaign Organization on Thursday.

Timi, while thanking members of the party advised all candidates and supporters of the party to halt campaign in the state being a law-abiding party.

The statement reads in part, “We have witnessed exciting times as the 2023 Delta State gubernatorial campaign wind down at 12 midnight today. We advice all our supporters, party loyalists and sympathizers that they should cease all forms of campaigns. Our party being Law abiding, will not do anything that offends the Law.

“It is important to thank our teeming supporters for staying the course with us all through the period of campaign. It has been exciting, illuminating and fun. We thank our opponents for staying on the issues. We observe that there was minimal mudslinging, character assassination and violence.

He said, “This is what democracy is all about. A market place of ideas, leaving the public to make their informed choices. We are aware that Delta State PDP has become a source of embarrassment to the political class, having squandered our commonwealth on intractable frivolities.

“The good news is that the voting public have made up their minds to vote them out in the determined quest for a breath of fresh air and people-centered open governance which the APC will present.

“The governorship campaign is closing on a note of surrender by Sheriff Oborevwori, candidate of the PDP in the 2023 election. Yesterday, he withdrew from an all important television debate with the other candidates in the election. A debate which would have exposed the worth of each candidate in the governorship ballot.

“His action is not out of character in this campaign that has seen the entire election process undermined by his personality deficits, even for the candidate of a ruling party in the state. He has been propped up and egged on by the incumbent governor determined to use him as body replacement on the governorship seat. But then there can be so much you can do for a laggard who cannot find the willpower to help himself. Sheriff Oborevwori cannot help himself now. He was never prepared to help himself.

“His nomination and campaign has been charged to the state in a most determined attempt to force the sale of a bad product, with the costs of sale rising far above the value of the product itself. It is believed that the state has spent over N20 billion to make his candidacy stand and to defend his certificates. None of these two undertakings have worked well for Sheriff or his party, PDP.

“His candidacy has refused to stand in the eyes of the Delta voting public who spurn the call even by the supreme court to accept the validity of his proffered certificates. The voters of Delta state have also refused to stand and help defend his candidacy.

“As a result of this mass rejection, the PDP has been hollowed out by mass defection of its members high and low as if running from a burning auditorium. Now who will be left behind to vote for Sheriff and the PDP on election day Saturday?

“In the midst of all this dissonance in Delta state PDP, a once spurned political party APC has risen in the state to take it’s place both in the heart of the people and where it matters most, their votes. APC and the governorship candidate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been rising in public acceptance and stature, embracing and bringing into the widening fold, all those who have lost faith in PDP and find it a dying horse driven to it’s death by a most inconsiderate and wicked rider who is no other than the governor himself.

“APC will win the governorship election in Delta state because it has offered the hope of regeneration of the state to the electorate. A state driven by it’s PDP governor to near death is finding the promise of rebirth by the APC attractive and inviting and the masses will stand behind this promise by voting massively for their collective victory and for everyone’s glory.

“Omo-Agege represents for Delta state, a new and resplendent dawn, mature, experienced and ready to work. We will all stand resolutely by him and vote for him to bring about that new dawn for Delta state.

“We charge our teeming supporters to vote without fear of any intimidation. Vote Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as Governor of Delta State and all the APC House of Assembly Candidates. May the Almighty God bless you all, Amen”,
