Group Calls for National “Integrity Day” to Promote Reputation and Ethical Values

By Diafa Doubra,
A civic advocacy group has urged the Federal Government to declare October 15 as “Nigeria Reputation Day,” a day dedicated to celebrate integrity, accountability, and national character.
The organization, made up of professionals and social reform advocates, said the proposed annual event would help rekindle Nigerians’ commitment to honesty, transparency, and trustworthiness in both public and private life. According to the group, the moral decay and corruption in society have eroded the country’s reputation globally, making it necessary to establish a day that reminds citizens of the importance of ethical conduct.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the group’s spokesperson emphasized that Nigeria’s arts, media, fashion, and cultural sectors should all reflect and promote the value of integrity. “We must begin to rebuild the image of Nigeria from within, by celebrating and rewarding individuals and organizations that uphold truth and discipline,” he said.
The proposal, now gaining traction among civil society organizations, is expected to be presented to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation for consideration. Many observers have lauded the initiative as a positive step toward reawakening the country’s moral conscience and restoring national pride.
