Gunmen Ambush Bus in Kogi, Kill Passenger and Injure Several Others
By Diafa Doubra,
A deadly ambush by suspected terrorists on Sunday evening left one passenger dead and several others injured along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers emerged from the bush around 5 p.m. and opened fire on a commercial bus travelling from Ekiti to Lokoja. The assault caused chaos as passengers scrambled for safety while the vehicle veered off the road.
Local residents said the gunmen later fled into the surrounding forest before security operatives arrived. The body of the deceased victim was recovered, while the injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Community leaders have expressed outrage over the rising wave of attacks in the area, which lies near the Kogi–Kwara border — a region increasingly notorious for kidnappings and bandit activities. They called on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, police authorities in Kogi State confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing to track down the armed gang responsible for the attack.
