Gunmen kill Policeman, Take Away Gun In Aba

By Sola Omoniyi, Lagos
There is a pandemonium in Aba following the incident that occurred at the commercial hub of Abia State, on Tuesday, July 25, when gunmen reportedly killed a policeman.
According to information, the incident happened at the popular SAMECK junction linking road users and visitors to the popular shoe market, Old Express and Ariaria International market respectively.
Reports said the policeman was killed at the same spot where yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked and killed four men in a commercial bus believed to be taskforce members of the government months ago.
It was gathered that the police team reportedly providing escort to a State Government official that was on a visit in the area was caught unaware as the attackers also made away with guns belonging to the deceased policemen.
Sources in the area said the gunmen apparently had been monitoring the team and decided to launch the attack at the busy junction which also provided them an easy route of escape, taking advantage of the busy and rowdiness of the area.
As of the time of filling this report, a source in the market stated that gunshots and teargas were fired by police men on Wednesday morning in Ariaria market, forcing traders to close their shops and run for safety.
However, the Abia Police Spokesman, ASP Maureen Chinaka is yet to react to the incident.
