Hunger Crisis Deepens in Northeastern Nigeria as Aid Dries Up

By Diafa Doubra,
Hunger and malnutrition are worsening in northeastern Nigeria as international aid cuts take a heavy toll on vulnerable communities. A recent report shows that with several nutrition centres closing or running out of supplies, an estimated 600,000 children are now at risk of death from severe malnutrition.
The situation has been compounded by years of conflict and displacement caused by Boko Haram insurgency, leaving families dependent on humanitarian assistance. However, reduced funding from the U.S. and other Western donors has forced aid agencies to scale back food distributions and health services.
Local health workers warn that more children are being admitted daily with critical conditions, while parents, unable to find enough food, watch helplessly. Humanitarian groups are calling for urgent global intervention to prevent what they describe as a looming catastrophe.
