I Doubt If Fela Died Happily — Yeni Kuti

Yeni Kuti, the daughter of the pioneer of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, has said that she’s not sure if her father died happily.

She stated that her father was ill, and disillusioned about his country, and for this reason, he didn’t die happily.

Yeni stated this in an interview with Chude’s post on Instagram on Tuesday, May 30.

She said, “I think he was disillusioned with Nigeria at the time that he died. A lot of things that he sang against are still happening.

“And sometimes I think, it’s even better he died then, because if he didn’t die then, he would have died now. So, I don’t think he died happy. ‘Catually lived for his country.

“Fela had the opportunity to live anywhere in the world, but he didn’t. He chose to live here. That’s one thing I love my family for. We all choose to live here cause this is home. Nowhere else is home.”
