IG Sets To Withdraw Police Escort From VIPs

Following the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad, the acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun has vowed to withdraw police assigned to VIPs.

The newly established Special Intervention Squad would have 40,000 highly trained police officers, this is according to Olukayode.

He stated that the development is to allow the police to wax stronger in the internal security architecture of the country.

The acting Inspector General of Police maintained that in a bid to kick start the process of regaining the country’s pride of place in the internal security architecture, the country first and foremost, modalities for the creation of a new special squad must be initiated.

“These new Squad will undergo intensive pre-deployment training to make them combat-ready for frontline operational duties in all states and federations. ” He said.

He however stressed that by pooling together the expertise and experience of PMF personnel and other tactical units, the force can establish a formidable force that is well-equipped to handle the evolving challenges.
