A prominent Ijaw leader, Chief (Comrade) Mulade Sheriff (PhD), has appealed to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to reconsider and expand the distribution of projects approved under the state’s ₦400 billion infrastructure development plan to ensure fair inclusion of Ijaw communities.

Chief Mulade expressed concern that Ijaw riverine areas were largely left out of the approved projects, despite contributing significantly to the state’s economy through oil, gas, and blue economy resources. He noted that about 90% of the ₦400 billion comes from rural/riverine communities, yet they lack basic infrastructure.

The approved projects include road constructions, rehabilitation, and institutional developments in various parts of the state, but Mulade emphasized that Ijaw areas were underrepresented. He urged the governor to prioritize projects linking coastal communities, such as the Ayakoromo Bridge, Burutu-Ogulagha Road, and Kurutie-Oporoza-Ogidigben-Yokri Road.

Mulade stressed that improved connectivity would stimulate economic growth, enhance security, and strengthen regional integration. He called on Ijaw leaders to intensify advocacy for development and ensure their resource contributions translate to sustainable infrastructure.

The Ijaw leader commended Governor Oborevwori’s development efforts and urged him to demonstrate fairness and inclusiveness.
