The Imo State Police Command has declared a hotelier, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, wanted after several decomposed and mutilated bodies were discovered in his privately owned mortuary.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, 6 December 2025, formed part of an intensified crackdown on kidnap gangs, violent criminals, and suspected organ-harvesting networks operating along the Owerri–Aba Expressway.

Speaking on the development, the state police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said investigators inspected a hotel and a private mortuary allegedly linked to criminal gangs.

“At the mortuary, decomposed and mutilated corpses were discovered in extremely unhygienic conditions, raising strong suspicions of illegal organ-harvesting activities,” Okoye stated.

The high-level raid was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and involved the Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Chioma Egu; the state’s Chief Pathologist, Dr Ibeaja Okechukwu; members of the Ngor Okpala Vigilante Group; and the Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA, Mrs Chika Ibekwe.

Following the discovery, the state government ordered the immediate closure of both the hotel and the mortuary. Okoye said forensic experts had secured and documented evidence from the premises. CP Danjuma further assured the public that:

“All accomplices will be identified and brought to justice.”

The police command also confirmed that enhanced security measures have been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway to safeguard travellers during the festive season.
