INC Resolves Issues, Accreditation Begins
By Joseph Bienbo, Yenagoa
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has resolved its issues with the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), zone 16, Bayelsa State paving the way for accreditation to begin. The development comes after the National Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (N-CITRE) suspended the INC elections indefinitely due to petitions and disputes.
The N-CITRE has set up a seven-man Dispute Resolution Committee to investigate the issues, and the electoral process remains on hold pending the committee’s report. The INC had earlier announced the elections, but the N-CITRE intervened, citing the need to address outstanding disputes.
The resolution of the issues with the AIG is seen as a positive step towards resolving the impasse. However, it remains unclear when the accreditation process will be completed and the elections will be held.
