The Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF) has expressed deep sorrow for the passing of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a towering figure in Nigeria’s political landscape and a relentless advocate for the rights and development of the Niger Delta region.
Congress earlier reported that Clark, who served as the Federal Commissioner for Information, died on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.
Born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Delta State, Clark was a distinguished Ijaw national leader and politician who played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s political history. He was a trusted advisor in various administrations and contributed significantly to national discourse and policy formulation.
According to IPF, throughout his life, Clark remained committed to justice, equity, and the upliftment of the Ijaw nation. His unwavering dedication has left an indelible mark on the collective history of the Niger Delta region.
The IPF has extended its deepest condolences to the Clark family, the Ijaw nation, and all Nigerians who were touched by his leadership and vision. “Chief Clark’s life was a beacon of hope and resilience; his contributions to our society are immeasurable and will continue to inspire generations to come,” said Comrade Ozobo Austin, President of the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum.
“The passing of Chief Clark is a devastating blow to the Niger Delta region, leaving behind a tremendous void in leadership. His demise is a monumental loss, not only for the Ijaw people but for the entire Niger Delta region, which has been robbed of a visionary leader and tireless advocate. His absence will be deeply felt, and the region will undoubtedly struggle to fill the leadership gap he has left behind”- he added.
However, the IPF has pledged to uphold the values Clark stood for and continue advocating for the progress and unity of the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. “May his soul rest in perfect peace”, the group added.
