IYC: N’Delta Activist Ezekiel throws weight behind calls for impeachment of Lokpobiri over betrayal, incompetence, negligence

By Monday Peters, Abuja
Ezekiel, a prominent Niger Delta activist, has made a passionate appeal to the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) parliament, urging them to consider the impeachment of the president of council Jonathan Lokpobiri over what he described as incompetence, gross misconducts and negligence of duty. His call stems from serious allegations of betrayal, which he claims undermined the interests and aspirations of the Ijaw people.
Ezekiel argued that Lokpobiri’s recent insult and backlash on Ijaw nation emanating from in a viral video have strayed far from the mandate given to him by the Ijaw youths, eroding the trust that is essential for effective leadership.
The activist further accused Lokpobiri of supporting the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against Ijaw people, citing that for Lokpobiri to openly insult the Ijaw nation which he has taken oat to protect showed he has sold out.
He contends that Lokpobiri’s actions in the recent video could be seen as prioritizing personal or external interests over those of the Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta, a situation that has sparked frustration and disappointment among leaders and stakeholders in the Ijaw nation.
According to him, Ijaw nation has lost confidence in him to speak for Ijaw Youths and lead council business, since he had decided to fraternize with enemies against the ideals through which he was elected to preside.
He said it was obvious that Lokpobiri had severally abandoned his primary assignments to traveling abroad to enjoy money he made from betraying the Ijaw cause, citing that Lokpobiri now lacked integrity and accountability to speak for Ijaw Youths.
Comrade Ezekiel reiterated that Lokpobiri came to council to look for money and now that he has gotten the money, he should go and rest to enjoy his betrayal money.
He charged the IYC parliament to impeach Jonathan Lokpobiri if he failed to resign, adding that if parliament refused to impeach him the Ijaw nation would take action.
Ezekiel’s call for impeachment is not just about Lokpobiri; it underscores a broader sentiment of discontent regarding representation and governance in the Ijaw Youth Council. Many activists and community members feel that their voices are often overlooked in political decisions, leading to a growing demand for accountability and transparency from their leaders inclusive of IYC.
This situation has intensified debates within the IYC and among various stakeholders about the role of the IYC president in advocating for the Ijaw nation’s needs.
The IYC, which has historically been a platform for voicing the concerns of the Ijaw people, now faces pressure to take decisions that reflect the will of individuals interest and politicians or perceived enemies.
The call serves as a reminder of the importance of trust between the IYC president and the Ijaw nation, particularly in a region where many feel that their struggles are often ignored by those in power.
The call for impeachment may catalyze further discussions on leadership, representation, and the urgent need for change in the governance of the Ijaw youth Council.
