JUST IN: Delegates Flood Ijaw House Ahead of INC Nat’l Election Monday April 13
By Monday Peters, Abuja
Reports have it that delegates have begun arriving at Ijaw House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, ahead of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) national elections scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026.
The INC president Professor Benjamin Okaba when contacted confirmed to our reporter that the election would go on as scheduled on Monday April 13, discarding earlier reports of alleged suspension of the election.
However, following an expanded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on April 9, 2026, the INC has confirmed the election date. The meeting, attended by top officials, reviewed the Electoral Committee’s report and expressed satisfaction with their preparedness.
According to a statement, the NEC emphasised ELECO’s independence in conducting the elections and clarified roles of Congress organs. The Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (CITRE) and the Board of Trustees (BOT) are advisory bodies with limited roles in election matters.
The INC urges the public to disregard conflicting information and support the forthcoming elections, expected to be a significant event in Ijaw politics.
