JUST IN: FIRS Pays Tribute To Staff Killed In Afriland Towers Blaze

By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is in mourning after four of its staff members lost their lives in Tuesday’s fire outbreak at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos.
In a statement issued by the management, the service confirmed that the blaze spread rapidly through the building before emergency responders could fully contain it, despite swift action by FIRS security and safety officers.
The tax authority, which occupies the sixth and seventh floors of Afriland Towers—home to its Medium Tax Audit and Onikan Emerging Tax Offices—said the deceased officers were working on those floors at the time of the incident.
“The management and staff of FIRS are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of four of our colleagues in the fire incident. We honour their memory and recognise their professionalism and dedication,” the statement read.
FIRS extended condolences to the bereaved families, pledging continued support during this difficult period.
In the wake of the tragedy, the agency announced a review of its safety protocols across all offices nationwide, whether rented or owned, to better protect its employees.
“Our people remain paramount, and we are committed to ensuring their safety in every workplace,” the statement added.
