JUST IN: NAFDAC Approves R21 Malaria Vaccine For Use

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC ) has permitted the use of R21 malaria vaccine.

NAFDAC confirmed this on Monday, April 17 during a joint review.

It was acknowledged that the R21 malaria vaccine data were reliable and meet standards for efficacy, safety and quality after the agency pointed out the dossier for the vaccine complies to a significant extent with the finest international standards.

The joint review committee stated that the vaccine is 75% effective in preventing malaria, supporting the manufacturer’s recommended use.

Nigeria is now the second nation in the world, after Ghana, to approve the use of the R21 malaria vaccine, according to NAFDAC.
