The Kano State Ministry of Health has completed the 4th cycle of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign across the 44 Local Government Areas of the State.

The exercise was started on Sunday, 19th to Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025, in collaboration with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and other health development partners.

A statement by a public relations officer, state ministry of health, Nabilusi Abubakar said, the SMC campaign remains one of the key interventions by the Kano State Government aimed at reducing the spread of malaria, particularly among children aged 3 to 59 months.

“The Ministry of Health noted that the completion of this 4th cycle coincides with the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cold season a period when mosquito breeding rates begin to decline. Nevertheless, the Ministry emphasized the need for continuous environmental hygiene to prevent further spread of the disease. Nabilusi said.

The Ministry attributed the success of the exercise to the dedication and hard work of health workers at all levels who ensured the campaign was executed effectively and efficiently.

The Ministry also urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and avoid stagnant water, as such environments serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes even during harmattan season.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, called on the general public to be using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and other preventive measures to protect their families from mosquito bites and malaria infection.
