Kwara Government Shuts 45 Schools Over Bandit Attacks, Moves Teachers to Safer Areas

By Diafa Doubra,
The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of
45 public schools across communities affected by recent bandit attacks, as part of measures to protect students and teachers from further violence.
According to Reports, the affected schools are located in volatile areas including Babanla, Baba Sango, Sangbe, Oke-Ode, and several border communities that have come under repeated bandit assaults in recent weeks.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, announced the closures, explaining that the decision was taken after a security assessment identified high risks to school staff and pupils. She added that teachers posted to the affected areas have been redeployed to safer communities to continue their duties.
The state government also abolished all Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levies in public schools, reaffirming its commitment to free and compulsory education. In addition, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the 2025 promotion exercise for teachers as part of efforts to boost morale and ensure continued learning despite the disruptions.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols around vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
