The Labour Party has called for stronger efforts to increase women’s participation in politics and governance across Nigeria.

Speaking at a recent forum, the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, said that women remain underrepresented in key decision making roles despite their significant contributions to national development. He noted that cultural barriers, economic disadvantages, and lack of political support continue to limit women from taking up leadership positions.

Abure stressed that meaningful democracy cannot thrive without gender balance and urged both the government and political parties to create deliberate policies that empower women. He also emphasized that Nigeria must align with global standards where women play more prominent roles in governance.

According to him, ensuring women’s inclusion is not just about fairness but also about tapping into a wealth of ideas and perspectives that can drive national progress.
