A two-storey building collapsed in the Surulere area of Lagos on Tuesday, leaving one person injured and five others rescued by emergency officials.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident occurred in the early hours of the day, sparking panic among residents. Rescue teams, including officials from the fire service and other first responders, were swiftly mobilized to the site to prevent further casualties.

The injured victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the rescued individuals are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have since cordoned off the area to forestall any secondary incidents and to allow for proper safety assessment of surrounding structures.

Incidents of building collapse have been recurrent in Lagos, often linked to substandard materials, poor structural designs, and lack of compliance with safety regulations. Residents are urging the state government to intensify monitoring and enforcement to prevent a repeat of such tragedies.
