Police in Borno State have launched an investigation after a man was discovered brutally murdered inside a parked vehicle at Modari Polo in Maiduguri on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was found at about 12:55 p.m. in the driver’s seat of a green Honda Civic with registration number GUB 142 GB, his throat slit, authorities said. An Access Bank ATM card bearing the name Mohammed Ibrahim Saje was recovered from inside the car, though police have not confirmed his identity.
A patrol team led by the GRA Divisional Police Officer arrived at the scene, photographed the vehicle and removed the body. The victim was taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The corpse has been deposited in the hospital mortuary pending autopsy and formal identification, officials said. The vehicle has since been towed to the police station for safekeeping.
No arrests have been made, and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri have opened a case. Investigators are working to locate the victim’s relatives to assist in establishing his identity and circumstances surrounding the killing.
The incident occurred just a day after Borno Radio Television (BRTV) hosted a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Maiduguri to address rising concerns over ritual-related abuse and human trafficking in the post-insurgency region, where authorities say public vigilance remains critical.
